FSU football: 4 major takeaways from first week 2024 spring camp

Need Consistency From Young Guys
FSU football coaches have done a great job recruiting the portal, but they have signed some high school guys over the past few years that have been biding their time developing in hopes to becoming contributors this year. There are players like Jackson West, Julian Armella, Jaylen Early, Daniel Lyons, KJ Sampson, Bryson Estes, Omar Graham Jr., Byron Turner Jr., and others. FSU head coach Mike Norvell stated they have seen flashes from several players, but they are looking for the consistency of meeting the standard each and every play.
That was the story last year when FSU coaches went to rotating players at different positions to build depth and give the starters a breather in games. We would see some players flash every now and then, but fail to execute a routine assignment on a play. It's the down to down consistency, or lack thereof, that's keeping these guys from getting more snaps. If you want a real world example, go back and look at the Orange Bowl. There were a lot of young guys playing in that game, and failing to do simple things like executing their 1-on-1 block, filling the right gap at linebacker, or setting the edge at defensive end allowed UGA to do whatever they wanted. FSU needs these guys to take the next step if they want to truly become an elite team with little to no drop off when the starters come out of the game.
