PLAY OF RYAN FITZGERALD AND ALEX MASTROMANNO

Special teams have always been a core foundation under the guidance of head football coach Mike Norvell. During his introductory press conference, Norvell spoke about special teams being the backbone of being an elite program.

Several fans were critical of the play of kicker Ryan Fitzgerald in 2022 where he made 12 of his 20 field goal attempts. Then he had a bounce-back campaign in 2023 with connecting on 19 of his 21 tries. He continued the hot streak in 2024 where he has made all four of his field goal attempts (no jinx here...).

As for punter Alex Mastromanno, he had six punts on Monday night. The offense was dreadful as the Seminoles went cold on the first three drives. It helps to have the Melbourne native back there helping the Florida State defense with the opposing team's starting field position. The 65-yard punt was masterful and I think Mastromanno is a serious weapon.

I hate that both of their talents were wasted on Monday night, but I hope that they can be utilized in better circumstances moving forward.
