FSU football: 3 most overrated teams on 2024 schedule
By Kelvin Hunt
SMU
The SMU Mustangs will open ACC play against FSU in their fifth game in 2024. They'll likely be undefeated going into the game with all of the motivation in the world to prove they belong with the big boys. The game is already sold out(thanks to FSU), and all 30,000 or so SMU fans will have their chest poked out with confidence, just as they have been gloating on social media since the news broke they were joining the ACC. I named SMU as one of the toughest games of 2024 for FSU, but it was more about FSU than SMU.
If FSU plays it a clean football game, they'll smoke the Mustangs like all three Power 5 programs they faced in 2023. SMU head coach Rhett Lashlee is a good coach and got some great advice from others who have jumped from the G5 level to the big leagues. However, their weakness in the trenches isn't something he can fix in one offseason. Adam Fuller handled Lashlee's offense(when he was at Miami in 2021) with a lesser defense than what he'll have in 2024. Make no mistake, they will win some games in 2024, but I don't think they'll give SMU the fight they expect when it's all said and done.
