The linebacker position was an area most highlighted as a need going into spring camp. FSU addressed some things by bringing DJ Lundy back into the mix after he entered the portal and committed to Colorado. Lundy looked good Saturday and will be a starter for the Noles in 2024. He knows the defense in and out and will be valuable to the younger guys trying to perfect the scheme. FSU coaches are high on Blake Nichelson, Justin Cryer, and Omar Graham Jr. Alabama transfer linebacker Shawn Murphy hasn't lit the world on fire this spring.

He hasn't been terrible, but he hasn't locked down the starting position opposite Lundy. That was the hope, but the reality is the Noles will likely need to dip back into the transfer portal for a more proven guy. A couple of experienced guys entered the portal a few days ago, and there are likely more who will enter. FSU will need to find the right fit, ideally, someone with proven experience and at least two years of eligibility remaining since Lundy will be gone in 2024.
