FSU football: 3 major takeaways from first 2024 fall camp scrimmage
By Kelvin Hunt
Parting Thoughts
FSU Defensive Coordinator Adam Fuller mentioned he thinks the linebacker unit could be deeper than last year's unit. FSU's two starters, Kalen DeLoach and Tatum Bethune, played the majority of the time last season. DJ Lundy (been limited in fall camp) will be one of the starters, and transfer Cam Riley looks to be a candidate to take the other starting spot. However, FSU has others like Blake Nichelson, Justin Cryer, and Omar Graham Jr. vying to get snaps at the position.
Those players saw time in limited action last year. The coaches mentioned the pass rush was active but needs some work to improve. I'd attribute that to having mostly young guys out there instead of Patrick Payton and others with college experience. We must remember the coaching staff will use these media settings as a way to speak indirectly to the players, and that's likely for guys like Byron Turner Jr., Aaron Hester, Lamont Green Jr., Jaden Jones, and others.
Fall camp seems to be going well overall. I think the coaching staff knows what they have for the most part, but now it's about developing deph and fine-tuning rotations and the right combinations to maximize the offense and defense.
