FSU football: 3 major takeaways from 2024 fall camp second scrimmage
By Kelvin Hunt
Most of First Team is Set/Building Depth With Young Guys
I think the overall theme of fall camp right now is the coaching staff knows what they have with most of the older players. These past two scrimmages have been about throwing the younger players out there to maximize reps to help build depth across the board. That's been the major difference between FSU lately and FSU in 2021 and 2022. Their top 22 players were good enough to compete with most teams, but the drop-off occurred when those players exited the game.
I don't think we'll see that much drop-off from down-to-down from this 2024 team. Mike Norvell mentioned he's been pleased with nearly every unit, and he's even praised the linebacker unit. I believe Mike Norvell doesn't think there will be much drop-off from that unit, which is crazy, considering the two starting guys in those spots are on NFL teams now. FSU has two weeks to continue building depth and for those young guys to get quality practice reps for that proverbial light to come on. We're in a great spot right now as a program.
