It was a matter of time after a 0-2 start to the 2024 season, but FSU has lost its second commitment in as many days. Four-star defensive end Javion Hilson has de-committed from FSU, according to a post on his X social media account.
After careful consideration, I have decided to decommit from Florida State and reopen my recruitment. I will be making my final decision in December. Thank you to everyone at FSU for their support.

FSU lost a commitment from four-star defensive tackle Myron Charles on Saturday afternoon, flipping his commitment to the Texas Longhorns. They are two of FSU's highest-ranked defensive commits at major positions of need. The defensive end position is one where FSU has struggled to land top players out of high school, despite developing two players into NFL First Round Draft picks over the past few years. FSU only has one defensive lineman commitment remaining with four-star defensive tackle Kevin Wynn. They don't have any defensive ends committed and the Early Signing Period is only about three months away.
The two de-commitments give FSU 11 commitments and the No. 34 overall ranking nationally. It'll be interesting to see what this team looks like against the Memphis Tigers next week. If things don't improve on the field, we can expect more de-commitments from the class. It's fair to say he's not completely ruling out FSU since he said his final decision will be made in December, but I think it's unlikely. Hilson was committed to Alabama before Nick Saban retired, and it wouldn't surprise me to see him end up committed to some team in the SEC. It's unfortunate for FSU, but maybe a full rebuild with a new supporting cast around Mike Norvell is needed if they can't keep this class together and continue to lose games.
