FSU football signed one of the top defensive back classes nationally in the 2024 recruiting cycle. They also took a large defensive backs class in 2023, which means they can be selective with who they take in the 2025 recruiting class. The Noles have four commits for 2025 and don't have a defensive back in the class yet. However, one of their top targets seems to favor the Noles. Four-star defensive back Gregory Xavier Thomas received two crystal ball projections for the Noles recently. Thomas was on campus several times for camps and a game last summer and fall. He returned to FSU for a "Junior Day" in January. It makes sense because he attends American Heritage Academy, where FSU defensive backs coach Patrick Surtain was the former head coach. FSU added several former American Heritage players to its roster recently, not to mention Thomas is one of the better defensive backs in the 2025 class.

He ranks No. 201 overall and the No. 25 cornerback nationally. He possesses elite size and length at 6'2" and 190 pounds. These are traits FSU covets in its secondary and why they led the nation in pass breakups in 2023. Thomas holds 27 offers, including LSU, Miami, Texas A&M, Louisville, Georgia Tech, Colorado, Oklahoma, Penn State, and tons of others. I don't expect FSU to take many defensive backs in its class, but it's obvious Gregory Xavier Thomas is a priority target by the number of times he's been on campus over the past year. I wrote about how the success on the field for the Noles over the past couple of years will pay dividends in the 2025 recruiting cycle. The high-caliber players visiting FSU this spring are a direct result of that. FSU plans to host a huge recruiting weekend in March, and we'll see if Gregory Xavier Thomas makes it back to campus then.
