Marvin Jones Jr.

I mentioned FSU's ability to get elite guys at the defensive end position from the transfer portal. Jermaine Johnson and Jared Verse started the pipeline, and Marvin Jones Jr. looks to continue that trend. This one is particularly satisfying because the coaching staff worked hard to land him while he was in high school, but the legacy ultimately chose Georgia. However, their efforts eventually paid off as he joined the program this spring and will be part of the effort to replace Jared Verse.

The reports from spring camp have been promising, with Jones Jr. acclimating to the 4-3 defense FSU uses, instead of the 3-4 run by Georgia. I broke down why I thought Marvin Jones Jr. would excel at FSU more than Georgia when he joined the team a few months ago. Saturday's game will be the first time we've seen him in action. I'm curious how he holds up against the run. That was a weakness when Jared Verse was out of the game last year. If he's solid there, I think he has the potential to be elite.
