Brooks was the heart of Florida State's first national championship defense in 1993. After being named an All-American linebacker and winning the national title in 1993, Brooks returned for his senior season at FSU and once against was an All-American.
As a senior Brooks was a team captain and led FSU to its third consecutive ACC title and was named All-ACC for the third time. Brooks was one of Bowden's best defensive players ever and easily had one of the most successful NFL careers of any player Bowden coached.
Brooks was a first-round pick of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 1995 and played in the NFL for Tampa Bay until 2008. Brooks was named NFL DPOY in 2002 and won the Super Bowl the same season.
