FSU basketball had a difficult 2022 campaign where the Seminoles finished with a 9-23 record. Don't look now, Florida State now has a 9-6 record (3-1 in conference) after Tuesday night's home victory over the Wake Forest Demon Deacons by a score of 87-82.
While the results have not been pretty, the Seminoles are now on a three-game winning streak. Head basketball coach Leonard Hamilton has his squad playing extremely hard on the defensive end where the Demon Deacon shot 9/25 from 3-point range (36%). Forward Jamir Watkins led the team in scoring with 19 points and also recorded 9 assists. Guard Darin Green Jr. added 17 points and Forward Baba Miller added 14 points.
The Seminoles were up by a score of 82-72 with 2:14 left to go in the second half after guard Darin Green Jr. made a dunk. However, things got interesting when the Demon Deacons cut the deficit to 4 points with 39 seconds left. Just like Florida State's recent victory over Virginia Tech, the Seminoles continued to battle.
In most circumstances, Florida State would have found a way to get Wake Forest back in the contest. This was a massive victory for the Seminoles as they gained confidence going into the heart of conference play. For reference, Florida State has not won three straight games in a season since the end of the 2021-2022 season.
Florida State's next matchup will be on the road against Notre Dame Fighting Irish at 1:15 PM on CW Network. Luckily for the Seminoles, Notre Dame has struggled with consistency this season where they have a 6-9 record.
Nonetheless, it was nice to see Florida State rebound nicely after losing to Lipscomb at home in late December.
