On Tuesday night, the FSU basketball secured a much-needed 91-75 victory over North Florida. The reason being much needed was due to the team being on a four-game losing streak. The win put their record to 5-5 as they continue their seven-game home stand. However, an accomplishment took place as guard Darin Green Jr reached over 1,500 points in his college career.

Seminole fans know that Green is an elite shooter. He may not always shoot a high percentage but when he’s in rhythm he can torch teams from the three-point line. Green has continued to elevate as a shooter through his early college career at UCF to now as a member of Florida State.

Throughout his two seasons as a Seminole, Green has produced big-scoring performances. His energy on offense can set the tone for the rest of the team. Let’s take a look back at his three best scoring performances since transferring to Florida State.

  1. 24 Pts vs North Florida 12/19/23

As I mentioned earlier, the Noles were desperate for a win. After defeating Colorado for the Sunshine Slam Championship, the team hit a wall and failed to close out games. One of the issues during the losing streak was Florida State’s offense as they couldn’t find a rhythm. With that being said, it was only right that their senior guard stepped up to the plate and led the charge.

It was a great night for Green vs North Florida. One could say that surpassing 1,500 points was his biggest motivation that night. He did a great job moving without the ball and utilizing screens to his advantage. Green also did a great job scoring off the dribble, which is an area in his game he’s continuing to work on. Along with scoring 24 points, Green shot 75 percent from the field and continued to light up the perimeter. It was the focal point in the Noles getting their first win in almost a month.

  1. 30 Pts vs St. John’s (12/17/22)

The Noles were preparing for an Orange Bowl Classic matchup against St. John’s. The question heading into the game was how were they going to overcome their great defense. Would they be able to run sets in their half-court offense? It was a struggle for Florida State to find a consistent rhythm offensively. However, one person who didn’t slow down was Darin Green Jr.

Green’s hot shooting was the reason that the Noles didn’t lose by 30. When he had an open opportunity, he took advantage and knocked down one three after another. As Florida State was in a double-digit hole, Green’s shooting helped them climb back to cut into the lead. Unfortunately, it wasn’t enough as the Noles lost 93-79. However, it became Green’s best scoring performance as a Seminole as he finished with 30 points on 72 percent from three-point land.

  1. 18 Pts vs Georgia Tech (1/7/23)

I get it. This isn’t a big scoring performance from Green. He’s had other performances where he scored 20+ in a contest. However, this became a big performance from Green due to the fact that he struggled in the first half. The Yellow Jackets got off to a hot start thanks to their ball movement and shooting. However, the Noles rallied their way back thanks to a spark from Green.

Green didn’t catch fire til early in the second half. He continued to do a good job of moving without the ball and anticipating the pass. With that being said, Florida State took control of the contest and ran away with a 75-64 victory at home. Green was the second-leading scorer for Florida State with 18 points and shot 46 percent from the floor. After losing a contest to their ACC rival, Duke, it was great to get a bounce-back win against another team in their conference.
