Florida State football enjoyed the successes of ten players being selected in the 2024 NFL Draft from their 2023 squad which had an undefeated regular season and accomplished a conference championship. There is a slight motion of frustration towards the College Football Playoff committee for excluding the Seminoles with all of the talent, but I digress.

Overall, this is a Seminoles squad that will have to replace several contributors from a season ago. One underrated player that might fly under the radar in terms of importance is running back Trey Benson, who was selected in the third round of the NFL Draft by the Arizona Cardinals.

Benson was the Seminoles' home-run hitter when the offense needed a spark. I remember when fans were complaining about the taken given that the former Oregon transfer went through a horrific lower-body injury where he faced adversity during his career with the Ducks.

The fan base had already seen the Seminoles acquire quarterback McKenzie Milton from the transfer portal who dealt with his own set of injuries. They did not want to fall down the same path.

Benson immediately proved the doubters wrong during his two-year playing career with the Seminoles where he recorded 1,800+ rushing yards and 23 touchdowns. Running backs coach David Johnson has always emphasized the importance of a committee approach with its backfield.

The former Oregon transfer defied the odds and accomplished his lifelong dream of being a professional football player. I know that the Cardinals are super excited to have him in the fold. On Wednesday afternoon, they showcased a video of Benson running in practice.

It is great to see that the Florida State football standout is already getting his feet wet in the NFL practice setting. Benson will have a great mentor in the backfield with him in veteran James Conner. However, I know that he will be having his hands full with dealing with former teammates Jared Verse and Braden Fiske twice a year.
