Former FSU RB realizes that he has to play former teammates twice a year
As we alluded to in a previous article, former Florida State running back Trey Benson was drafted by the Arizona Cardinals with the 66th overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft. That is great accomplishment for a player who suffered a severe lower-body injury a couple of years ago.
However, his former defensive lineman teammates (defensive end Jared Verse and Braden Fiske) were selected by a division rival, the Los Angeles Rams. On Saturday morning, the realization came to Benson that he would be playing them twice a year.
This is unfortunate for Benson as he has to yet again face off against his former teammates. I imagine that practice was grueling when the running back had to battle the strong defenders in the trenches.
However, that is how professional football operates as you cannot pick favorites in the league. It is great to recognize former college teammates after the games, but it is serious when the games are being played.
During his two seasons with the Seminoles, Benson had over 1,800 rushing yards and 23 touchdowns. Even though all three former Florida State players are playing on the West Coast, you can be sure that all of the fan base will be monitoring them on television.
This is the type of culture that head football coach Mike Norvell has instilled into his program. Florida State has generated success on the football field where they have accumulated 23 victories in the past two seasons.
However, the program wants to continue its sustainable success as it looks to reach new heights with this tradition-rich university that is filled with championships and NFL Draft picks.
As we progress through the next couple of seasons, we should be able to see several former Seminoles in the league where the university will be well represented with Norvell's players that he recruited to Florida State.
