Florida State redshirt freshman wide receiver enters transfer portal
Florida State football fans understand the challenges that will be taking place during the upcoming 2024 season given that the program has to replace so many meaningful playmakers on the offensive and defensive side of the football.
Two contributors that will certainly be missed are wide receivers Johnny Wilson and Keon Coleman, who declared for the 2024 NFL Draft.
As a result, the Seminoles' coaching staff wanted to try and build their wide receiver position room with two transfers in Malik Benson (Alabama) and Jalen Brown (LSU). Plus, they wanted to see the likes of Destyn Hill, Hykeem Williams, and Vandrevius Jacobs take the next step in their development.
Unfortunately, Hill is out for the remainder of the spring with an injury (we hope it isn't serious) and it was announced on Monday that Vandrevius Jacobs has now entered the transfer portal.
Hykeem Williams is now the final wide receiver prospect in the 2023 recruiting cycle for Florida State after Goldie Lawrence and Vandrevius Jacobs have left the program.
Jacobs was a talented former four-star prospect from Vero Beach, Florida who certainly showcased flashes of being great during the spring as well as fall practices. However, the true freshman never materialized his success in an in-game environment where he recorded three receptions for 60 yards and one touchdown.
This competition is a nutshell of where the college football landscape is filled with players who have entered the transfer portal. The transfer portal isn't going away anytime soon. This was bound to happen given that the program is over the 85-man scholarship limit and Jacobs had not been utilized.
This transfer news of Jacobs likely means that the Seminoles will be exploring the idea of adding a wide receiver via the portal. It will probably be in their best interest even though the position room itself is very promising.
