Do we see true freshman TE Landen Thomas for the remainder of the 2024 season?

Is it time for Landen Thomas to emerge?

Florida State football had an embarrassing outing in the road contest versus the SMU Mustangs by a score of 42-16. Myself and ChopChat's Kelvin Hunt both selected the Seminoles to lose (trust me, we didn't want to), but the program have not showcased any signs of life offensively.

The Seminoles' fan base want to blame the woes on quarterback DJ Uiagalelei. I get it, the signal-caller is supposed to be the leader on the team. However, the former Clemson and Oregon State transfer has been one of the quarterbacks in the Power Five.

He also completed 12 of his 30 passes for 222 yards with two touchdowns and three interceptions. That isn't going to get the job done. However, I never be an individual to point the finger at someone else's job. The coaching staff understands who the players are.

The offensive line, wide receivers, tight ends, and running backs have all not helped DJ Uiagalelei out. While I knew the offense would have to replace the likes of Trey Benson, Keon Coleman, Johnny Wilson, and Jaheim Bell, I didn't think the offense would be this bad.

One player who I didn't think would struggle this bad is senior tight end Kyle Morlock. This is Morlock's second season in Tallahassee after serving the 2023 season as Jaheim Bell's primary back up where he accumulated over 200 yards.

Morlock has dealt with his fair share of drops and inconsistencies. Many media members that attended practice in the spring and fall highlighted the fact that the tight end was a consistent performer where he showcased his skills.

However, when the games come on, Morlock has been a shell of himself. During the SMU game, he recorded one catch for 20 yards. The Seminoles' offense struggled to move the football in the contest. Florida State was losing by a score of 14-9 at halftime, but the offense was able to get the football first in the second half to potentially take the lead.

However, on the second play of the opening drive for the Seminoles, Morlock was open and Uiagalelei put the football right on his hands and it popped up in the air right to an SMU defender where they would score off the turnover later on and make it a 21-9 lead.

Those are winning plays that seems so easy to handle that the Seminoles are struggling to get through. Confidence is everything for these 18-23 year old athletes. The consistent drops and unproductiveness has seem to get to Morlock.

It wonder if the coaching staff will replace him with the true freshman Landen Thomas. The former four-star prospect from the 2024 recruiting class scored a 20-yard touchdown later in the game. Fans are super excited about him and they want to see the young players play. It would not be craziest thing to suggest that they need to bring out Thomas for the rest of the year.
