Defensive line was disruptive during the Seminoles' third practice of the fall
Florida State football conducted a padded practice on Friday as the Seminoles look to replicate its success from the 2023 season where it accomplished an undefeated regular season and a conference championship.
It will be a difficult task as the program will have to replace the likes of defensive end Jared Verse and defensive tackles Braden Fiske and Fabien Lovett Sr. However, the college football landscape is all about having to step up for losing players to graduation, transfer portal, and the NFL.
The Seminoles' defense had 46 sacks last year and were very successful with getting after opposing quarterbacks. Overall, the defensive line had 31.5 of that sack total.
The projected starting defensive line consists of the following players:
-DE Patrick Payton
-DE Marvin Jones Jr.
-DT Darrell Jackson Jr.
-DT Joshua Farmer
However, players such as Sione Lolohea, Byron Turner Jr., Aaron Hester, Daniel Lyons, KJ Sampson, and Grady Kelly could also be involved in the rotation. Florida State is confident about what it has in the position room.
After Friday's practice, head football coach Mike Norvell spoke to the media and provided the following statement: "The defensive line was disruptive. They did a good job of getting off the ball."
Some of the media members have suggested that the defensive line is as advertised. However, a player such as Marvin Jones Jr. is talented but has not had much production while with the Bulldogs. Fans have to give credit where it is due where this coaching staff (primarily defensive ends coach John Papuchis) has done a tremendous job with developing at the position.
I believe that the defensive line can be successful. However, they could run into some trouble with playing offenses that like to get the football out quickly. Overall, Florida State could continue to be classified as a destination for pass rushers.
