DB coach Patrick Surtain Sr. raved about veteran transfer Omarion Cooper
Florida State lost three defensive backs from the 2023 season with cornerbacks Renardo Green and Jarrian Jones and safety Akeem Dent, who went to the NFL.
Defensive backs coach Patrick Surtain Sr. seems to be confident in the players that he has on the roster like Azareye'h Thomas, Fentrell Cypress II, and Shyheim Brown. Plus, the Seminoles brought in transfers such as Alabama's Earl Little Jr., Miami's Davonte Brown, and Colorado's Omarion Cooper.
It seems like everyone discounts the fact that Florida State brought in Cooper. He was originally with the Seminoles before he transferred to Colorado for the 2023 season. The former four-star prospect had 30 tackles and three interceptions during his two seasons in Tallahassee.
The coaching staff attempted to switch him from cornerback to the safety position. Unfortunately, he struggled with consistency. As it seems with a lot of college football athletes, he felt that it was necessary to enter the transfer portal in hopes of having a new environment.
Home sweet home as Cooper is now back in the garnet and gold. Surtain Sr. discussed about the talented defender after Tuesday's practice where he stated the following:
"Duke brings some veteran presence to our team. He provides some versatility. He can play safety, he plays nickel, obviously, he played corner in the past, so just his versatility, his leadership within the room, his special team's value. "

The fan base did not know what to expect from the Class of 2021 four-star recruit as the defensive backfield seems to always be loaded. However, it is worth mentioning that defensive coordinator Adam Fuller utilizes several defensive backs in their 4-2-5 scheme.
It is great to see veteran players such as Omarion Cooper and Kevin Knowles II step up during fall camp. It feels like just when you count them out, they shine in the biggest moments. Head football coach Mike Norvell always points out the point of responding when things don't go your way and that is what exactly both of the defenders did.
I believe that Cooper will have a role on the football team during the 2024 season and I cannot wait to see how he performs with being back in Tallahassee.
