Could true freshman WR Elijah Moore contribute meaningful snaps in Year 1?
Florida State football secured four wide receiver prospects via the 2024 recruiting class with Camdon Frier, Lawayne McCoy, BJ Gibson, and Elijah Moore. Assistant coach Ron Dugans has to be excited with what these young men are bringing to the table.
They all have a great opportunity in front of them. I usually wouldn't suggest that true freshmen will get many chances in Year 1. However, the Seminoles have to replace the two big-bodied playmakers Johnny Wilson and Keon Coleman, who are off to the NFL.
The coaching staff did add Alabama's Malik Benson and LSU's Jalen Brown via the transfer portal. As expected, both of them get a lot of shine from the fan base. Benson is expected to be the number-one receiving option in the offense for 2024. However, who will emerge as the other viable playmakers?
One candidate to keep your eye on is true freshman Elijah Moore. Yes, I understand that he is very young plus he was a summer enrollee which makes him behind the 8-ball in terms of knowing the plays. However, Moore is a former four-star prospect with a high catch radius given his 6'4" radius.
He could give quarterback DJ Uiagalelei a red zone target to throw to when the coverage is getting tight and the Seminoles need a first down. On Sunday, Florida State football's social media account showcased a throw from quarterback Brock Glenn to wide receiver Elijah Moore where it showcased his playmaking ability.
It is a really good sign that he is already getting raved about this early in his career. I am not saying that Moore will be a starter right away, but I think by the middle of October rolls around and he gets acclimated to the collegiate game, the wide receiver could be in play for meaningful reps.
As of now, I think the starting three receivers would be Malik Benson, Hykeem Williams, and JaKhi Douglas. However, there will likely be a rotation of at least seven guys that contribute heavily.
