Could DB Kevin Knowles II have a breakout campaign like Jarrian Jones in 2023?
Florida State football is having to replace the likes of Jarrian Jones, Renardo Green, and Akeem Dent who all went to the NFL. That is what it is like when the Seminoles are a successful team once again and have their DBU status back.
The secondary has seemed to be a bright spot for Florida State as defensive backs coach Patrick Surtain Sr. has made his presence known on the field as well as the recruiting trail.
We know that the Seminoles have talented pieces in the defensive back position room for 2024 such as Azareye'h Thomas, Fentrell Cypress II, Earl Little Jr., Shyheim Brown, Davonte Brown, and Conrad Hussey.
Senior defensive back Kevin Knowles II is one veteran piece that has emerged as a viable part of the rotation. Fans were critical of the playing ability of cornerback Jarrian Jones last offseason and then he exploded onto the scene and was drafted by the Jacksonville Jaguars in the 2024 NFL Draft.
As Jones stated in a media session, he heard what fans were saying on social media. When he finally got healthy, the former Mississippi State transfer showcased what he was made of in the nickel position.
This could be a prime opportunity for Knowles II to display his talents during his final season in Tallahassee. While I believe that Earl Little Jr. is very talented, he has not stayed healthy during the spring and summer.
This could open the door for the former three-star prospect to emerge with significant playing time. During the 2023 season, Knowles II had 31 tackles and three pass breakups. He dealt with injuries and changed to the safety position which ruined his confidence as a player.
Honestly, I see a lot of similarities between him and Jarrian Jones from last offseason. I am not suggesting that Knowles II is a high draft pick but I will say that he will have a bounce back 2024 campaign for the Seminoles.
