Brock Glenn listed as co-starter against Clemson, Why he shouldn't start
By Kelvin Hunt
FSU football fans have been calling for Brock Glenn to be the starting quarterback since the Boston College game. However, he hadn't entered a game all season until DJ Uiagalelei injured his finger late in the SMU game Saturday night. The game was in garbage time and over as FSU trailed big in the fourth quarter.
The FSU depth chart released Monday afternoon listed Brock Glenn as the co-starter with DJ Uiagalelei. The depth chart isn't always accurate, and Mike Norvell mentioned he floated the idea to name multiple players co-starters this week.
It's nice to see Mike Norvell finally willing to move towards the future, but starting Brock Glenn against an elite Clemson defense isn't the smartest move if DJ Uiaglaelei can play. I wrote more about it here. FSU has a bye-week after the Clemson game. I'd give Brock Glenn all the starter reps in the bye week and the week leading up to the Duke game. That gives him two weeks of preparation against a Duke team, which is not very good team.
The likelihood of Glenn developing against that Clemson defense is nearly zero since he'll likely be running for his life behind that offensive line. There's also a good chance he could get banged up if he's hit several times, and that wouldn't do much to help his development.
It's a game where FSU will be more than a two-touchdown betting underdog. It won't hurt to throw DJ Uiagalelei out there one more game against his former team to take the beating coming, literally and figuratively. Frankly, I'd give Glenn most of the starter reps going against Clemson to speed up his development even though I wouldn't plan to play him. I would be surprised if Mike Norvell starts him if Uiagalelei is healthy enough to play. It at least gives Clemson something else to think about this week.
