Florida State football is inching closer and closer. The Seminoles accomplished an undefeated regular season and a conference championship last season. However, head football coach Mike Norvell and company will be looking to prove the doubters wrong as the College Football Playoff Committee did not allow the Seminoles to compete for a national championship.

The squad will look completely different in 2024 with various new transfers and recruits. However, the Seminoles seem to be up to the challenge as they have a combined 23-4 record over the past two seasons.

It is almost that time of year again as we are six weeks away from Florida State football's 2024 season opener versus the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets in Dublin, Ireland on Saturday, August 24th.

Two players wear the number five jersey number on the Seminoles' roster in redshirt senior wide receiver Deuce Spann and redshirt junior defensive tackle Joshua Farmer.

DEUCE SPANN

Will the deuce finally be loose? The former quarterback turned wide receiver has not impacted Tallahassee much as he has recorded nine receptions for 87 yards and zero touchdowns in his two seasons in the garnet and gold. He did have the kickoff return for a touchdown versus Duke in 2023, which impacted the result of the contest.

Spann will be entering his final season at Florida State. It is now or never for the talented playmaker. He was brought via the transfer portal with wide receivers Johnny Wilson, Winston Wright Jr., and Mycah Pittman. Spann was considered an afterthought. Maybe the coaching staff can be able to utilize his speed and quickness in 2024.

JOSHUA FARMER

Florida State had a disruptive defensive tackle position with the likes of Braden Fiske and Fabien Lovett Sr. in 2023. However, Lovett Sr. suffered an injury in the season opener versus LSU which hindered him throughout the rest of the year.

As a result, the redshirt sophomore Joshua Farmer had to step into an elevated role where he recorded 32 tackles (seven for loss) and five sacks. The former three-star prospect has the starting defensive tackle spot locked up and will finally be joined by his close friend and former high school teammate, Darrell Jackson Jr. (if the NCAA does not declare him ineligible again).
