5-star OT target Josh Petty visiting FSU on Sunday with August decision on deck
Florida State is still sitting as the seventeenth-best recruiting class according to the 247Sports Composite rankings. The Seminoles are looking to add talented pieces to the future foundation of its team.
Offensive coordinator/offensive line coach Alex Atkins is considered one of the best recruiters on the coaching staff as he has already secured the likes of five-star interior offensive lineman Solomon Thomas and four-star interior offensive lineman Peyton Joseph.
However, there is still one prospect that they would like to grab: Five-star offensive tackle Josh Petty.
Florida State will be losing current players such as Darius Washington, Maurice Smith, Jeremiah Byers, Keiondre Jones, Richie Leonard IV, and others after the 2024 season. Atkins will have his work cut out for him as it will not be easy replacing those guys.
Speaking of Petty, he has been on the Seminoles' radar for quite some time now. The five-star prospect has visited the Seminoles during the massive June 23rd weekend and even has a crystal ball prediction for Florida State.
Things were looking up for the Roswell, Georgia native as he was set to announce his commitment on August 12th (his birthday) between Florida State, Georgia Tech, Stanford, Tennessee, and Ohio State. His sister is attending school in Tallahassee and it would have been an easy transition for him and his family.
It was thought to be a slam dunk of recruitment for the Seminoles. However, we know how ever-changing recruiting can be. The Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets put their hat into the recruitment as Petty visited their campus yesterday. Fans were nervous given that it could be his last visit before the decision was made.
However, Petty will now be visiting Florida State on Sunday. This is a massive development for the Seminoles' recruiting class. To hopefully get a certified blue-chip prospect at the offensive tackle position is something that can never be discounted. Atkins and company have done a wonderful job with continuing to build a relationship with the five-star prospect and not being complacent in recruiting him.
