5-star OT target Josh Petty inching closer to August 12th decision date
Florida State is ranked as the seventeenth-best recruiting class in the 2025 cycle according to 247Sports Composite rankings.
The Seminoles' coaching staff has acquired talented prospects in its recruiting class. However, the program is looking to take advantage of having a combined 23-4 record over the past two seasons.
Recruits are starting to gravitate towards Florida State. One recruit they are focusing on is five-star offensive tackle Josh Petty from Fellowship Christian School in Roswell, Georgia.
Petty previously visited Georgia Tech last weekend and Seminole fans were worried about the Yellow Jackets. Florida State was considered the leader in its recruitment and individuals became worried that Georgia Tech would secure him.
However, the talented offensive tackle prospect visited the Seminoles the day after. He will be making his decision on his birthday (August 12th). Offensive coordinator/offensive line coach Alex Atkins has been focused on Petty for a long time.
Petty's sister will also attend school in Tallahassee, which could also play a factor in his recruitment. As it stands, I believe that Florida State is still in a great position to land him. Given his strong relationship with Atkins, I think it is the Seminoles' recruitment to lose.
On Sunday, Petty posted a picture on his Twitter (X) account of him on his unofficial visit in Tallahassee.
You could tell by the picture that he and his family looked very happy to be there and there were smiles all around. This is a huge recruiting need for Florida State as offensive tackles such as Darius Washington, Jeremiah Byers, and Robert Scott Jr. will be graduating after the 2024 season.
Plus, it is big for Atkins to prove that he gets to develop big-time recruits instead of relying on transfer portal players. This is a concern as other programs try to negatively recruit Florida State for taking experience via the transfer portal for offensive linemen.
