4-star S target Hylton Stubbs locks in his official visit with Florida State
FSU football has taken advantage of a solid foundation in the 2025 recruiting cycle with five-star offensive lineman Solomon Thomas, four-star quarterback Tramell Jones Jr., four-star defensive end Javion Hilson, and four-star linebacker Ethan Pritchard.
With Jones Jr. verbally in the fold, most fans thought that the Seminoles would have some pull for the elite prospects at Mandarin High School such as five-star wide receiver Jaime Ffrench Jr. and four-star safety Hylton Stubbs.
Ffrench Jr. has taken several visits to Florida State and has even visited the campus after he de-committed from Alabama. However, it seems like Ohio State has entered the race for his recruitment. Knowing the Buckeyes' track record at receiver, it will be a battle until the end to acquire his services.
As for Stubbs, he has not visited Tallahassee since Florida State defeated the arch-rival Miami Hurricanes on November 11th. The worrisome aspect is that he has visited Miami and Florida in January.
Even with the concern there, On3's Chad Simmons has reported that Florida State will get an official visit with Stubbs for June 14-16.
Unfortunately, Stubbs currently has a crystal ball prediction in favor of the Florida Gators about two weeks ago. Plus, it isn't ideal that the safety standout will have Miami as his last known official visit. Nonetheless, it is great to see the coaching staff putting their hat in the ring for the four-star prospect.
As of right now, Florida State does not have any defensive backs committed in their 2025 recruiting cycle. However, defensive backs coach Patrick Surtain Sr. has done well with building relationships with a variety of talented prospects.
While the Seminoles have several players who are on the current roster that will make a sizable difference, it is always ideal to continue to stack talent at the position especially when defensive coordinator Adam Fuller utilizes so many defensive backs in his scheme.
