4-star DE commit Javion Hilson rode in head football coach Mike Norvell's Maybach
Florida State football's recruiting class for the 2025 cycle has been very quiet. While I know that the Seminoles secured a commitment on Saturday for Class of 2026 five-star quarterback Brady Smigiel, there has not been any momentum for this current group of prospects.
Luckily enough for the coaching staff, they host several recruits on campus for official visits this weekend in Tallahassee. While Florida State must get other prospects to commit, it is also vital that the coaching staff keeps what they have in their class.
The Seminoles have four commitments pledged to the program in five-star offensive lineman Solomon Thomas, four-star quarterback Tramell Jones Jr., four-star defensive end Javion Hilson, and four-star linebacker Ethan Pritchard.
There have been hesitancies within some of these commitments' recruitments. For example, Solomon Thomas has been flirting with the likes of LSU and Florida. Then you got Tramell Jones Jr. potentially looking at Florida.
However, I would like to discuss Javion Hilson. We have already talked about his commitment status in a recent article. Hilson has told reporters that he chose between the likes of Florida State and Texas before shutting down his recruitment.
The Cocoa, Florida native flipped his services to the Seminoles after backing off his pledge with the Alabama Crimson Tide in January after legendary head football coach Nick Saban unexpectedly retired.
I realize that the recruitment can be a little bit dicey with NIL. The Texas Longhorns are a very wealthy program and are coming off a 2023 season where they made the College Football Playoff. Plus, there are even videos where they have an abundance of cars in front of their facility for official visitors.
Texas certainly has more money than it knows what to do with. However, with that being said, Florida State is not a poor program. They have resources available at their disposal.
On Saturday afternoon, head football coach Mike Norvell countered Texas University's flashiness of the cars by allowing four-star defensive end Javion Hilson to ride in his Maybach.
While the Seminoles did not need to do this, it is important to get Hilson to realize that Florida State has resources and provide him with the best opportunity to be successful via NIL if he puts in the hard work and dedication.
