DEFENSIVE ENDS

Florida State is having to experience life without superstar pass rusher Jared Verse, who declared for the 2024 NFL Draft. The former Albany transfer recorded 18 sacks throughout his two seasons in Tallahassee.

The coaching staff decided to hit the transfer portal to solidify depth and talent in the room by picking up Marvin Jones Jr. (Georgia), Sione Lolohea (Oregon State), and Tomiwa Durojaiye (West Virginia- who could play both defensive end and defensive tackle).

The level of depth for the defensive ends is much better this year. That is not to say that the defense will generate over 45 sacks this season. However, the capable bodies can be interchangeable with pass-rushing situations to make opposing quarterbacks uncomfortable.

While I do believe Patrick Payton is a sure-fire starter at defensive end, I do think that Marvin Jones Jr., Sione Lolohea, Tomiwa Durojaiye, Byron Turner Jr., and even Jaden Jones will be in the rotation as we inch closer to the season. Defensive ends coach John Papuchis has a talent of riches.
