3 players on the Seminoles' roster that need a breakout in fall camp
S CONRAD HUSSEY
Florida State's secondary were incredible in pass coverage last season where they limited opponents from passing the football downfield. However, it is important to note that defensive backs such as Jarrian Jones, Renardo Green, and Akeem Dent head to the NFL.
There isn't a shortage of talent for defensive backs coach Patrick Surtain Sr. though as he has pieces such as Azareye'h Thomas, Fentrell Cypress III, Earl Little Jr., and Shyheim Brown.
Speaking of the safety position, I don't think fans are taking the loss of Akeem Dent as seriously as it should be. Dent was virtually the quarterback of the defense and it was felt heavily when the veteran was out with an injury where communication was lacking.
Coming into the 2024 season, veteran Shyheim Brown looks to man one of the safety spots. However, I wonder who will emerge as the other safety: Conrad Hussey or Davonte Brown?
Hussey is a promising sophomore who lowers the boom on wide receivers. The former four-star prospect was a summer enrollee last year and I did not expect him to play much during the 2023 season. However, he appeared in all 14 games where he recorded 22 tackles, two forced fumbles and one interception.
This is a prime opportunity for Hussey to earn a starting spot in the defense during fall camp.
