3 players on the Seminoles' football roster to monitor for spring practice
DE MARVIN JONES JR.
Florida State will be having to replace the likes of the ultra-talented defensive end Jared Verse, who declared for the 2024 NFL Draft. The former Albany transfer made his mark in Tallahassee where he recorded 18 total sacks during his two-year playing career.
The Seminoles are returning their rising superstar Patrick Payton who has consistently gotten better every season. However, reserve Gilber Edmond elected to transfer back to South Carolina this past offseason. As a result, the depth at the position took a hit.
Defensive ends John Papuchis and the coaching staff emphasized the importance of dipping into the transfer portal to acquire talented pieces. They have had success in the past where they added Jermaine Johnson II, Keir Thomas, and Jared Verse.
They hope to add to that consistent level of success as they picked up Georgia sophomore transfer Marvin Jones Jr. The fanbase was super excited about the acquisition due to Jones Jr. being the son of former Florida State legendary linebacker Marvin "Shade Tree" Jones.
Plus, the Seminoles were attempting to obtain the services of the former Class of 2022 five-star prospect before he decided to sign with the Georgia Bulldogs. I guess that it is better late than never. While Jones Jr. does not have the proven production with only recording 16 total tackles and four sacks in two seasons with the Bulldogs, he was behind several talented pieces on the roster.
He has the opportunity to make a name for himself as Florida State's defense looks to take another step forward under the guidance of defensive coordinator Adam Fuller.
