3 aspects that make me excited with 12 weeks before FSU football's season opener
AGGRESSIVE DEFENSIVE BACKFIELD
Florida State defensive back coach Patrick Surtain Sr. has already put his stamp on the program with his connections on the recruiting trail plus his players' production on the field. The Seminoles ranked 11th in the FBS last year in passing yards allowed (179.7).
I do realize that the Seminoles lost three incredible members of their secondary to the NFL in Renardo Green, Jarrian Jones, and Akeem Dent. It cannot go understated that I thought Dent was the quarterback of the defense last year when it come to getting everyone lined up.
However, in college football, players on the roster have to prepare for the moments when their numbers are called. I think that redshirt junior safety Shyheim Brown has an opportunity to become an All-ACC caliber defensive back if he puts everything together.
Not to mention that up-and-coming cornerback Azareye'h Thomas is being inserted into the starting lineup with veteran cornerback Fentrell Cypress II. I am also high on Alabama nickel cornerback Earl Little Jr. who will most likely replace Greedy Vance Jr. (transferred to USC this offseason).
I expect the secondary to take advantage of their matchups and emphasize the importance of forcing turnovers.
