247Sports' Brad Crawford projects the Florida State Seminoles in the 12-team CFP
Florida State football is preparing to have a fantastic 2024 campaign as they accomplished an undefeated regular season and a conference championship last year.
Unfortunately, the Seminoles were excluded from the opportunity to compete for a national championship due to the College Football Playoff committee favoring a one-loss Alabama Crimson Tide team. With Florida State football's luck, this was the final year of the 4-team College Football Playoff format. During this season, the sport will implement a 12-team playoff.
While that is great and all, it still does not allow Seminole fans to forget what transpired on that Sunday in December.
With that being said, Florida State head football coach Mike Norvell does want to turn the page on the disappointing set of events. The Seminoles enter the 2024 season with a ton of newcomers. Florida State has a little over 50% of returning production from a season ago.
This squad seems hungry to prove the doubters wrong. The headliners with the newcomers include transfers such as quarterback DJ Uiagalelei (Clemson/Oregon State), wide receiver Malik Benson (Alabama), and defensive end Marvin Jones Jr. (Georgia).
These three transfer portal prospects will be vital in the Seminoles' success during the 2024 season. Florida State will be looking to prove the doubters wrong this year as the Vegas over/under win total is set at 9.5 for the Seminoles.
It is easy to understand why the drop in wins is happening after going a combined 23-4 record over the past two seasons. Players like Jordan Travis, Trey Benson, Johnny Wilson, Keon Coleman, Jaheim Bell, D'Mitri Emmanuel, Jared Verse, Braden Fiske, Fabien Lovett Sr., Kalen DeLoach, Tatum Bethune, Renardo Green, Jarrian Jones, and Akeem Dent are no longer sporting the garnet and gold.
However, that is the landscape of college football. Teams have to find ways to adjust to losing significant pieces with the NFL and the transfer portal.
Even with the Seminoles losing several key pieces, 247Sports' Brad Crawford has Florida State in his projected 4-team College Football Playoff.
In Crawford's scenario, Florida State would secure the No. 3 seed which means that they won the ACC Championship Game for the second year in a row. Then they would play the winner of No. 6 Texas and No. 11 Notre Dame (which I believe that is a favorable matchup for the Seminoles).
While I know it would be awesome to host a playoff game in Doak Campbell Stadium at night, I think it would be beneficial for the Seminoles to get the much-needed bye week at this junction of the season. It seems like some individuals are high on the Seminoles to continue their success on the football field.
