Indiana completed its unbeaten season by defeating a two-loss Miami team to win its first National Title with a 16-0 record. As soon as the game ended, some pundits started talking about putting this Indiana team among the greatest college football teams ever.
And 2013 FSU would beat both https://t.co/9XcTLlRIQQ

They put them in the same conversation as 2019 LSU and some other teams, but consistently failed to mention a team that’s better than all of them by several metrics.
That’s the 2013 FSU team.

However, surprisingly, one ESPN employee mentioned the 2013 FSU team when talking about the greatest point differential among National Title winners. Scott Van Pelt correctly pointed out that FSU has the highest point differential at +553 points.
It’s higher than 2025 Indiana. It’s higher than the 2019 LSU. It’s higher than 2001 Miami. It’s higher than any team you want to mention, and the caveat is that the 2013 FSU team did it in two fewer games at 14-0.
Indiana would need to win by 81+ points tonight to overtake 2013 FSU for biggest season point differential for a National Championship winner since 1956.

2013 FSU 553
2025 Indiana 473
2018 Clemson 467
2005 Texas 439
2008 Florida 430
These media guys have to stop with the disrespect when it comes to the 2013 FSU football team
I know that team was 12 years ago, but it’s like these media folks have amnesia about how great that team was. I suppose it was because the National Title game went how it did, and casual folks didn’t know that Auburn had FSU’s offensive signals in the first half.
It wasn’t until Jimbo Fisher started using towels to cover their signals after halftime that FSU dominated in Auburn in the second half.

FSU went 14-0 and beat three teams inside the top five by an average margin of 22.3 points, and every player on that team made an NFL roster. FSU football was never held under 34 points the entire 2013 season. In fact, they were only held under 40 points twice all season.
One of those games was when Auburn had its signals, and the other was the final regular-season game against Florida, where they scored 37 points on the road and led 27-0 going into the fourth quarter.
2013 FSU absolutely belongs in the conversation among the greatest college football teams of all time, and has the stats to prove they are that team, better than anyone else.
