Florida State football has been an absolute disaster over the past two seasons, where they have combined for only seven total wins. The Seminoles were thought to be on top of the college football mountain top after beating Alabama in the opener, but they fell flat on their face.

Head football coach Mike Norvell was retained for another year by the administration. Fans are ready to grab their pitchforks because this is a program that has championship expectations.

The Seminole faithful is ready to be back in the days when Bobby Bowden and Jimbo Fisher were leading in Tallahassee. Granted, Norvell had the 2022 and 2023 seasons, where they finished 10-3 and 13-1, respectively. However, the standard is not being met with four losing seasons in six years.

On3 analyst JD PicKell is not buying the Seminoles in 2026

This isn't an article highlighting my thoughts on the program, as I want to see Florida State succeed, and I believe Mike Norvell can turn it around if the right foundation is established and the necessary moves are made.

It would be one thing if I mentioned ESPN's Paul Finebaum or Greg McElroy because they dislike Florida State, and they aren't in the SEC. However, it is interesting that On3's JD PicKell has an honest look at Florida State football (you can find the entire YouTube video by clicking here).

PicKell starts by mentioning that Miami is having success with Mario Cristobal, and he was hired two years after Norvell. Then the arch-rival Florida Gators struggled and ended up hiring a new coach in Jon Sumrall. He goes on to mention that the Seminoles are just sitting on their hands and not doing anything.

PicKell was very high on Florida State football, and much like the fan base, he has been burned by the inconsistencies. It is rinse and repeat for the horrible habits that the Seminoles are developing in recruiting and development.

PicKell mentions that Norvell is a good coach, but thinks that the $58 million buyout should happen. It is a harsh reality that the Seminoles are facing in the offseason, with all the players transferring to different schools.
