On3/Rivals analysts Andy Staples and Ari Wasserman took a dive into Mike Norvell's tenure at FSU and his much-maligned press conference earlier in the week when he suggested he would win more championships at FSU.
Since going 13-1 in 2023, FSU is 6-15 under Norvell, going 2-10 last season and sitting at 4-5 this year with three games remaining. The struggles have placed the sixth-year Seminoles coach firmly on the hot seat.

Wasserman found it difficult to be convinced by Norvell's latest rant, saying that despite the opening-week win over Alabama, the 2025 season has looked much like the 2024 season.
"It doesn't move me at all," Wasserman quipped.
Staples puts the 2023 season in the rear view mirror
Both Staples and Wasserman understand the frustration of the FSU fanbase and looked at Norvell's comments as being a bit tone-deaf to the current situation the Seminoles face.
"The thing is, 'I won the ACC two years ago, I think is completely erased by the 2-10 season you had last year. You don't get to claim it anymore," Staples said.
That's an interesting statement, and I'm not sure Staples is wrong here. The 2023 season was great until the end and while it really doesn't compare to FSU's national title years or even the close-call years in the 1990s, it was a very good team that brought a lot of hope for what Norvell could accomplish.
However, almost two years later, it feels like Norvell got over with a shoddy roster-building philosophy that didn't allow FSU to capitalize on the season. The loss to Georgia should have put his poor ability to recruit in the spotlight, but fans were still rightfully angry about being snubbed out of the playoffs.
Norvell's results and recruiting are not up to standard
The standard is a major keyword in FSU football these days. Norvell and FSU AD Michael Alford talk about the FSU standard still being the standard, but overall tenure with Norvell has shown the standard to be one of mediocrity. One ACC title in six seasons is nothing to brag about. Two bowl games in five seasons is borderline embarrassing.
"You cannot let it get that bad at a place like Florida State. Florida State by itself...just the helmet, the logo, the name should always put you in a position, regardless of who the coach is, to at least get enough good players to never go 2-10," Wasserman added.
