UPDATED AP POLL RANKING

Florida State football is fresh off its victory over the East Texas A&M Lions by a score of 77-3. It might not seem like a lot, but the Seminoles handled their business accordingly (shot at the Alabama Crimson Tide). Last year taught me to never underestimate an opponent and value wins.

Nonetheless, Florida State feels comfortable in itself, but it cannot let off the gas. They cannot drink the poison, as former defensive back Bryant McFadden stated in the pre-game of the Alabama contest.

The AP poll just dropped, and Florida State is now ranked as the tenth-best team in the country. I don't necessarily agree with the decision to move them from No. 14 to No. 10, but they did look impressive versus East Texas A&M on Saturday, as punter Mac Chiumento did not make an appearance.

ANALYSIS

The Seminoles are a confident bunch that wants to make the fan base happy. I believe that part of the reasoning behind the elevation in ranking is that the matchup with the Hurricanes is looming, and they would prefer to have a top-ten rivalry showdown to boost ratings.

However, as the Florida Gators learned, they have a matchup with the South Florida Bulls, and they are fresh off a win in the Swamp in exciting fashion. The Hurricanes always seem to underwhelm their fan base, so they might as well lose a game that they aren't supposed to and let quarterback Carson Beck get used to what it means to be a Hurricane.

Nonetheless, I am happy for Florida State to get the AP poll ranking, but they have to remain focused on the task at hand: Finishing 1-0.
