FSU FOOTBALL

Florida State opens as a 44.5-point home favorite over the Kent State Golden Flashes. This article is not to dismiss the Seminoles or suggest that Kent State could win the football game outright.

However, this is a Seminole team that is coming off an unusual bye week after thrashing East Texas A&M by a score of 77-3. This should have a scenario where a bye week could have been used before the Virginia game on Friday night or even between Virginia and Miami.

Nonetheless, beggars cannot be choosers. The Seminoles are rolling on the offensive end, where they have averaged 54 points per game through two contests. Plus, the defense is flying to the football, making 18-year-old wide receiver Ryan Williams scared for his life.

SHOULD WE BE CONCERNED?

Would you like the short answer? Absolutely not.

This is the Florida State football squad that doesn't look satisfied, which it accomplished by beating Alabama in the season opener. As Mike Norvell put it, they should have beaten the Crimson Tide by more than two possessions.

This isn't a Kent State defense that is built like the 1985 Bears, but Florida State could have a couple of mental lapses in place of a blowout that need to be cleaned up. The Golden Flashes' only victory came from Merrimack.

This isn't a shot at Kent State, but fans will likely see a squad that could be in the ballpark of scoring in the mid-50s in points, instead of 70 like it did with East Texas A&M. "Coming out flat", like the article's title suggest, could mean that the program is unsuccessful in its first drive and has to get a third down conversion on the second drive before cruising to a 50-point win.

However, the rust could be coming for the Seminoles before they focus on the conference opponent, Virginia.
