Florida State women's basketball has been on a hot streak lately, where it has reeled off three straight victories versus Pittsburgh, Miami, and Georgia Tech. The fan base was getting a bit concerned after the blowout losses to North Carolina State and Louisville at home.
To make matters worse, talented guards Ti'Niya Latson and O'Mariah Gordon have been dealing with injuries as of late. This is unfortunate since Latson leads the country in scoring with 26.2 points per game, while Gordon averages 16.7 points per game.
Florida State had a big road matchup versus the No. 3 ranked Notre Dame Fighting Irish on Thursday night. Some individuals did not give the Seminoles much of a chance to secure the win since the Fighting Irish had an overall record of 23-4 and a 15-2 conference record coming into the game.
With that said, both Latson and Gordon made their return and showed the nation why the Seminoles are a dangerous offensive team if they are relatively healthy. The Seminoles came into Purcell Pavilion and knocked off Notre Dame by a score of 86-81.
For reference, the Fighting Irish were 16.5-point favorites. Florida State flexed its offensive muscles. Ta'Niya had a game-high 23 points where she shot 7/20 from the field (0/3 from three-point range). It didn't matter that the shooting performance wasn't great.
The reasoning behind that is because forward Makayla Timpson, who I state all of the time, does all of the "dirty work" to get the job done. Timpson finished with 22 points and 17 rebounds (6 offensive).
Let's not forget about guard O'Mariah Gordon in her return, where she had 15 points while shooting 5/15 from the field (1/5 from three). It was not a perfect performance by Gordon (just like Latson), but the Seminoles proved to be capable of beating elite teams without their best night.
This was certainly an amazing win for the Lady Noles tonight!
