Florida State football has had a fantastic group of players that made it to the NFL. They have been classified by some individuals as "DBU." The Seminoles even had defensive backs last year, such as Jarrian Jones, Renardo Green, Jarrian Jones, and Akeem Dent.

Florida State has always made defensive backs look good. The Seminoles should have Azareye'h Thomas drafted relatively high in the 2025 NFL Draft. Defensive backs coach Patrick Surtain Sr. and the coaching staff have not taken a defensive back transfer in the portal yet.

I am excited about the development of defensive backs such as Shyheim Brown, Edwin Joseph, and Quindarrius Jones. They should be some good pieces that could make NFL rosters with solid seasons.

The NFL Playoffs are here as several former Florida State players are playing for their respective NFL teams. One player that I was excited to see what he could do is defensive back Derwin James Jr., who plays for the Los Angeles Chargers.

The Chargers played the Houston Texans in the AFC Wild Card Game. Even though quarterback Justin Herbert had a turnover fest, James Jr. recorded seven tackles and a forced fumble.

This was an impressive play on defense by James Jr. This seemed to be a turning point for the team until the turnovers started to mount.

The referees did not want to see the former Seminole succeed as he had an interception overturned when the football did not move. I hate that this was the last game of the season for James Jr. but he had a remarkable campaign where he finished with 100 total tackles and 5.5 sacks.

Speaking of former Florida State players, I want to recognize defensive lineman Mario Edwards Jr., who plays with the Houston Texans. He had a great game where he recorded two tackles and 1.5 sacks in the contest.

I cannot wait to see the other former Seminoles succeed on their NFL teams as they look to win a Super Bowl ring.
