Moral victories aren't the standard at Florida State

Moral victories should not be taken here against Miami.

FSU FOOTBALL

Florida State football had a disappointing outing on Saturday, as it fell to arch-rival Miami by a score of 28-22. It was disappointing for the Seminoles, as they had numerous fans who paid hundreds of dollars to attend the game in Doak Campbell Stadium.

This isn't a "the sky is falling" situation from this perspective, but this was a gotta have it game from head football coach Mike Norvell. The Seminoles now have two conference losses to Virginia and Miami, which virtually eliminates them from ACC title contention.

Individuals will be calling for Norvell's job (which is ridiculous) after the loss.

NO MORAL VICTORIES

Florida State was down by a score of 28-3 in the third quarter. Head football coach Mario Cristobal had a conservative approach to offense, which allowed the Seminoles to put points on the scoreboard.

This isn't a time for moral victories, as the turnovers began to mount. There were two interceptions and one fumble that sparked the Hurricanes' offense. Miami had twelve penalties, but they were secure with the football.

The Seminoles outgained by 404-338. The key to the game was for the defense to contain the running game, which had 32 attempts for 98 yards. That was a night-and-day difference from the Virginia contest.

Quarterback Thomas Castellanos is a confident signal-caller who stood on business against Alabama in the season opener. However, this is a pivotal moment in the season, where Castellanos completed 25 of his 45 passes for 272 passing yards and two touchdowns with two interceptions.

That isn't a stat line that needs to happen if the Seminoles want to be competitive in marquee matchups. Overall, it was definitely a disappointing outing from the entire team.

All they can do now is lick their wounds and respond against Pittsburgh.
