MIKE NORVELL SPEAKS TO MEDIA

Florida State head football coach Mike Norvell spoke to the media on Tuesday afternoon as the Seminoles have a bye week after their previous 77-3 victory over East Texas A&M. They will take on the Kent State Golden Flashes on Saturday, September 20th at 3:30 PM EST.

Some individuals would think that Coach Norvell would be happy that Florida State defeated Alabama and East Texas A&M to start their season on the right foot, but he is emphasizing the same feelings as he tells the team: You have to continue being your best.

During the 2-10 season, there were numerous instances where it looked like the squad shut down in disappointment and failure. However, the coaching staff and even the players have made it a priority to keep the standard upheld at Florida State.

FSU FOOTBALL DEFENSE

One aspect of the success that I am proud of is the way that the defensive unit is physical and aggressive toward the football. This is a big part because the Seminoles hired former Syracuse and Nebraska defensive coordinator Tony White.

I know that Coach White will probably not be a defensive coordinator long in Tallahassee, as he is trying to pursue a head football coaching job, but I know that fans are grateful to have him around.

Overall, I thought the defense performed well with players such as defensive back Earl Little Jr. and linebacker Justin Cryer coming downhill to inflict their physicality on opposing players. Even with the aggression, Coach Norvell highlighted during the media session that he wanted to see the defense force fumbles.

Defensive tackle Daniel Lyons forced one fumble this season, but the defense hasn't been able to secure the football and give it back to the offense. I am actually shocked that the defense hasn't had many opportunities, given the fact that the defenders are lowering the boom when they tackle.
