After previously losing a day to prepare for the Week 6 game against Louisville, Florida State will have an extra day to prepare for the looming battle against Miami. The Seminoles will need all the time that they can get as the Hurricanes have been a brutal opponent this season, and coach Mike Norvell has a streak that desperately needs to be snapped.

Heading into the Week 6 game in Kentucky against Louisville, a story following Norvell into the game involved an unfortunate and mind-boggling streak Florida State is currently on. Norvell and Florida State have lost the last 11 road games in a row, a streak that stretches across three different seasons now.

Confidence was starting to build after Florida State dominated Virginia in Week 5, but the loss to Louisville not only brought the team back to the drawing board, it also extended the road game losing streak. The Seminoles cannot win away from home at the moment, and with Miami already expected to win, the continuation of the streak could be a factor that sends Norvell packing.

Mike Norvell has a serious problem playing on the road with Florida State

Norvell struggling to win road games is nothing new, with a 13-9 road record with Memphis across four seasons. Before the 2023 season, Norvell went 5-8 on the road with the Seminoles and lost his first five road games with the program in a row. Winning road games has never been a strong suit for Norvell, and now it will play a big part in his potential firing.

Florida State entered Week 6 with momentum on its side, and yet, Norvell's team delivered a performance worth forgetting. The loss to Louisville stung, and the loss additionally revealed another problem that Norvell has with road games aside from the growing streak.

In his first four road losses with the program, Florida State lost by a combined 106 points, and the closest game still saw the team lose by three scores. Fast-forward to the 2021 season, and Florida State lost three road games, and two of them were by two scores. Norvell has lost 14 road games with Florida State by a margin of at least 10 points.

The Seminoles have not just been losing on the road during Norvell's tenure; the team has been getting dismantled, regardless of momentum heading into the games. The current 11-game streak is a culmination of what has been brewing for years, and Norvell likely will not be able to snap the streak against Miami in Week 7.

Road games are tough for Norvell, and Miami has also been very challenging, setting the stage for a potentially ugly result for the Seminoles. Florida State is 3-3 against Miami since hiring Norvell, and the last win was a 27-20 victory at home during the 2023 season.

Two very important streaks will be on the line for Norvell, but the confidence surrounding whether or not he will snap them is dwindling. The coach has long been expected to be bought out after the game against the Hurricanes since the result would likely be a dramatic one, and given the 3-3 start to the year, the likelihood of Norvell sticking around after the game feels very slim. Week 6 erased any positivity Norvell could have brought into the game against Miami, which makes Week 7 feel doomed from the start.
