Mike Norvell not giving up on 4-star RB who decommitted from Florida State

Remember Amari Thomas? The in-state four-star running back https://247sports.com/player/amari-thomas-46148145/ was committed to FSU until he wasn't and now on August 8 he's going to make his "final" decision.

The good news is that FSU is still in the picture for Thomas to re-commit to the Seminoles and fulfill that need at running back for the 14th-ranked recruiting class in the nation. South Carolina has been the team long rumored to be pursuing Thomas, and they are joined in his final list by Colorado and Georgia Tech.

Thomas' only recorded official visits were to  FSU and South Carolina, so I don't know if Georgia Tech and Colorado are just for show or if he has future plans to visit Atlanta and Boulder down the road.

Thomas committed to the Seminoles in late January while on campus for a junior day event. With the 5-foot-10, 185-pounder in the fold, FSU seemed pretty set at the position. During the spring/summer recruiting window, Thomas took an official visit to South Carolina in May and one to Tallahassee in June. It seemed like he was comparing both schools and by the end of the window, Thomas seemingly felt better about the Gamecocks.

My thoughts: FSU my see better fit with another Amari

While I think FSU would take Thomas' commitment again, I don't see it happening. I think both sides have moved on. You haven't heard much about contact either way and with Norvell looking to bring in composite four-star running back Amari Latimer, a Georgia prospect that is committed to Wisconsin.

Clearly, FSU is looking around and apparently looking for another running back named Amari. This Amari is a little bigger and might actually be a better overall fit given how much speed there is in the backfield and on the perimeter already. The Seminoles could use a big bruiser with a little speed and Latimer seems to fit that bill.

So, we'll keep an eye on what Amari Thomas does in the next few days, but the staff appears to have already pivoted to Amari Latimer.
