Florida State didn’t offer four-star athlete Brayton Feister until May 17, but just over a week later, he’s already on campus in Tallahassee. The 6-foot-2, 238-pound Massillon, Ohio, product is taking an unofficial visit to Florida State on Thursday before his scheduled official visits this summer.Â

Feister is scheduled to visit Georgia on Friday, Cal on June 5, and Oregon, which appears to be the leader in his recruitment, on June 19. Feister is the 132nd-ranked player in the country by 247Sports Composite, and the No. 7 athlete in the 2027 class. He’s expected to play linebacker at the next level, though he was a two-way star for Archbishop Hoban High School and will be for Massillon Washington High School, where he’s transferred for his senior season.Â
FSU hosting 4-star Brayton Feister 8 days after extending an offer
Florida State hasn’t exactly been a recruiting powerhouse under Norvell, but the Seminoles have routinely added top 20 classes in the country to the roster. Last year, even with uncertainty about Norvell’s job stability after two straight losing seasons, was another step in that direction with the 16th-best class.Â
This cycle, however, FSU is off to a slow start with just seven commits and the 42nd-ranked class in the country. With just three four-star prospects, even the average ranking of FSU’s seven commits slots 35th in the country and seventh in the ACC. That may explain the urgency in their pursuit of Feister, who would become the top-ranked player in the class.Â
So far, that distinction belongs to four-star safety Mekhi Williams from Ruskin, Florida, who is ranked 197th nationally. Feister is a similar caliber of recruit, a Mr. Ohio Football finalist and the Division II co-defensive player of the year. He was credited with 133 tackles, 39 for a loss, 13 sacks, 4 forced fumbles, and two interceptions while posting a 1,000-yard, 17-touchdown season on the ground.Â
Feister shows some comfort in coverage, has enough speed to patrol the middle of the field, and uses that speed to make splash plays as a blitzer, but he truly shines as a run defender. You can see the running back instincts when he’s diagnosing blocking schemes, and oftentimes, he sees the hole before the opposing back does. He has the quickness and balance to evade blockers in space and the size to destroy blocks at the point of attack.Â
He’s a downhill linebacker with serious pop who could set the tone for a defense at the Power 4 level. If that throwbacker thumper is the type of linebacker you’re looking for, Feister is your man.Â
By the Rivals prediction machine, Feister is favored to commit to Oregon at 96 percent, so swaying him away from Dan Lanning’s Ducks would take a herculean recruiting feat from Norvell and his staff. Even with connections to the Feister family through recruiting his younger brother Brydon, a three-star athlete in the 2028 class, it doesn’t look like one FSU is likely to pull off.
