Just a day after a dominant Week 5 win against Virginia, Florida State landed a key 2028 commitment from a new in-state recruiting target. IMG Academy defensive back Man Robinson announced his commitment to the Seminoles and quickly became the highest-rated member of the growing 2028 Florida State recruiting class.
Coach Mike Norvell and the Seminoles' staff originally began recruiting Robinson nearly two years ago. Norvell's staff extended a scholarship to Robinson in December of 2024, and later hosted the recruit for both the upset win over Alabama in 2025 and a recent camp event in June. When Robinson announced his transfer from Christian Academy of Louisville to IMG Academy, the idea of Florida State landing the commitment became more realistic.
Heading into Week 5, Florida State and Norvell in particular had a lot riding on the game with a massive recruiting weekend prepared. Current commitments, flip targets, and future recruiting targets were all in attendance for the game. Norvell delivered with a dominant win, and the downward trend on the recruiting trail has turned around.
The lasting effect of a dominant win is already showing for Florida State with a new 2028 commitment
Florida State fans did not need to wait long to learn whether or not the win over Virginia meant something to the recruits. Robinson announced his commitment a day after the win, and his commitment has certainly come at the right time for Florida State.
Before Robinson's announcement, the Seminoles had been trending to lose a handful of 2027 and 2028 commitments, but the addition of Robinson is a safety net of sorts. Recruits are still eager to play for Florida State, and continued success could reel in even bigger names. As the Seminoles try to gain momentum on the field, the commitment of Robinson could gain momentum on the recruiting trail.
With the commitment of Robinson, Florida State currently has the fifth-best 2028 recruiting class in the country per 247 Sports. Robinson is a natural cornerback, but he has committed to the Seminoles as a safety. Joining Robinson in Florida State's 2028 recruiting class are edge Meshi Dobson, safety Chayse Brown, and tight end Troy Silberzahn.
It is certainly very early to look at a class primarily made up of high school juniors, but Florida State's early success in the 2028 class is notable. Dobson is one of the most highly recruited players coming out of the state of Florida in the 2028 class, with 35 offers from the likes of Alabama, Florida, Miami, Missouri, Ohio State, and Oregon. His commitment alone is a big one with plenty of time for his ranking to fly and boatloads of potential.
In addition to the commitments of Dobson and Robinson, Florida State also has two strong commitments from Brown and Silberzahn. Brown, who was originally listed as an athlete, was recruited by the Seminoles' staff as a safety, and his extensive track background has drawn attention from plenty of programs. Silberzahn will play tight end for Florida State, but he also has experience playing quarterback and running back.
The growth of the 2028 recruiting class is pretty unbelievable for Norvell, in particular, in the face of endless buyout talk. Two weeks ago, it looked like Norvell and his staff might not survive the season, and even with a big win over Virginia, the coach is not necessarily safe. Plenty can and will change before any of the 2028 recruits finally hit campus, but the fact that Norvell has been successful early in the cycle is notable.
