Mike Norvell is notoriously vague when it comes to injury reports, which is why there were major concerns about the seriousness of the injury to transfer defensive lineman Jayson Jenkins.

But during his local media interview before ACC Media Days, Norvell gave a positive update to Jenkins' potential availability...we think.

"I'm pleased with where we are," Norvell said before stepping to the podium. "This spring, unfortunately, we missed out on three practices there at the end of spring that was expecting to get some guys back. "To be able to see, as we got into the summer, the work that those guys are doing, building that cohesiveness among the group, I think has been good."

This is a better update than the one Norvell offered at the League meetings, where he was non-committal about Jenkins' availability and didn't even want to discuss details of the injury, but said he was ahead of schedule.

"There might be a couple of one-offs that might be limited when we start up with fall camp," Norvell continued. "Jayson will be one of those guys. I mean he's progressing extremely well. He's probably farther ahead than most would have expected him at this point. Barring any setback, he's put himself in a great position -- very confident in what he's doing and how he's moving. Excited for what that's going to be."

The earlier Jenkins can get on the field, the better it is for FSU. Of all the players in the ninth-ranked transfer class, Jenkins and wide receiver Duce Robinson are probably the ones with the most NFL upside.

Jenkins, a redshirt junior, is another situation of FSU trying to capitalize on upside over production, but the 6-foot-6, 280-pound lineman played in 13 games last season and had 3.5 tackles for loss and two sacks.. His scheme versatility makes him an intriguing fit for Tony White's 3-3-5 defense and one can expect several situations where White tries to get Jenkins and Darrell Jackson on the field together.

But right now, Norvell's goal is to get Jenkins ready for camp and hopefully, he'll be able to suit up for the opener against Alabama.
