A massive piece of news dropped yesterday when Florida State announced the highest-rated member of Mike Norvell's 2026 recruiting class had been dismissed from the program. Shortly after announcing the dismissal of defensive back Chuck Kennon, an arrest report shed light on the event that led up to the decision to move on from the athlete.

Early in the morning on Tuesday, a Florida State official revealed that Kennon has been dismissed from the program and removed from the roster for "conduct detrimental to the team". Shortly after, Kennon's arrest report went viral, which revealed the defensive back had two felony charges and one misdemeanor stemming from an incident on October 11. Kennon was later arrested on October 12 and booked afterward.

Norvell briefly addressed the situation during his press conference and stated that the dismissal and arrest are "disappointing", but ultimately the right decision had been made by removing him from the roster. Norvell also added that the program has standards that need to be met by both the players and the staff, and since Kennon failed to meet those standards, the decision had to be made.

The question about Kennon and the dismissal was bound to come during the press conference, and Norvell looked upset about how everything unfolded. The former blue-chip recruit was suddenly dismissed from the team, and the shocking reason why is the last thing anyone wanted to see. With serious charges, including two felonies, Norvell and Florida State needed to dismiss the athlete.

Kennon signed with Florida State as a member of the 2026 recruiting class, and the defensive back was the highest-rated member of the class for the Seminoles. Injuries slowed Kennon down early on in the season, and the defensive back was only able to get a very brief look at collegiate football against Virginia in Week 5.

The Florida State staff, including Norvell, had very high hopes for the recruit, which unfortunately will no longer pan out. Kennon received plenty of praise during camp for his performances and ability to pick up the speed of college football. Despite never truly getting a chance to prove himself on the field this season, Kennon was considered to be a big part of the future of the Florida State secondary.

If found guilty of all three of his current charges, Kennon could face a maximum penalty of up to 20 years in prison. Kennon could also face up to 20 years of probation for the second-degree and third-degree felonies.
