FSU FOOTBALL
Florida State lost to the Stanford Cardinal by a score of 20-13 on Saturday night, when some of you were probably asleep, given that it was a 10:30 PM EST kickoff. Honestly, I don't blame you for not watching the game because it was three hours of misery.
The standard of this proud football program is in jeopardy, as Mike Norvell is now 1-11 in his last 12 ACC games. The Seminoles want to leave the conference for the SEC or Big Ten, and that is a bad look when trying to do so.
It is safe to say that Coach Norvell's era at Florida State is over. There is no way that you lose to this Stanford squad with a backup quarterback, backup running back, third-string left guard, and multiple starting cornerbacks who were out via injuries.
NORVELL OUT AT FLORIDA STATE?
Let me start by saying that this is a situation where I never want to call for someone's job. However, Florida State is now 5-15 in its last 20 games, and I cannot tell a difference between the Garnet and Gold and Purdue (sorry, Boilermakers) in terms of production.
Athletics Director Michael Alford likely has to pull the plug and let the head football coach go. Even with the massive buyout, this seems like a situation where it is much more costly to keep him around, as the big-time boosters, fans, players, and even recruits no longer trust him.
Sundays are usually designated for coaches being on the chopping block. This has become a situation where Alford makes the decision. The only aspect that I wonder is if Florida State allowed head football coach Mike Norvell to fly back home to Tallahassee after the loss.
This is a situation where I absolutely bleed Garnet and Gold, and never want to be pessimistic. This comes from a loving heart that wants what's best for the Seminoles. However, this current state of Florida State football is unacceptable.
