FSU football coaches had a lot of dead weight in their roster after the 2024 season. Players recruited during the pandemic with evaluations couldn't be done in person that much. There were Players riddled with injuries and others who were high-ranking portal guys who never met those expectations.
FSU has had 23 players exit the program via the transfer portal, and a few others exhausted eligibility. When I look at the 23 players who have exited the program, I'd say 17 were never consistent contributors in any fashion and had no future to become contributors. That's 74 percent of the guys who've left.
The good news? FSU has prioritized experience and production from the incoming players from the transfer portal. FSU has added 16 players so far and may add a couple more before it's all said and done. Only one of those guys doesn't have a ton of playing experience (Caleb LaVallee), but he's someone with potential and 3 three years remaining, at a position that needs depth.
All the other additions have multiple years of experience and have been contributors at their previous institutions. The most important thing is they all meet huge needs on the roster, especially in the trenches and at the skill positions.
This is a big departure from what FSU did in the transfer portal last year when they took more guys with high recruiting rankings out of high school and little to no production. If we couple these new additions with coaches and coordinators who have produced multiple top 30 offenses and top 20 defenses? FSU fans should feel good about things going into 2025!
