Florida State softball (4-0) remained undefeated with a doubleheader sweep over Marshall on Saturday. The Noles won the first game 6-2 and by 10-2 run-rule in the nightcap.
The first game saw Jazzy Francik continue to dazzle in the circle, only allowing three hits in five innings. She had eight strikeouts and one walk, while allowing no runs. Freshman pitcher Bella Dimitrijevic made her FSU debut. She pitched the final two innings and allowed two earned runs on four hits. However, two of the hits were not well-hit balls.
The home run allowed was when she got behind in the count, but she responded well and struckout the final batter she saw. She has immense potential. Her fastball is already mid-60s with movement into right-handed batters, and she featured a changeup that got a strikeout. She looks to have the goods, but will need to continue getting experience.
Freshman Makenna Sturgis went 2-3 with two RBI, including her first career home run. Freshman Marin Heller also had two hits and made a dazzling run-saving play on defense after making an error just moments before. Isa Torres is a machine and had two hits.
The second game saw freshman pitcher Marlee Gaskell make her FSU debut. She worked through some trouble early and pitched two innings. Ashtyn Danley came in and got out of a jam as Gaskell left the game in the top of the third. FSU took advantage of some Marshall miscues on defense to plate some runs, but Marin Heller had Torres had another monster game:

It was good to see Makeena Reid have some success, as she pitched the final inning and struckout the final batter she faced. FSU looks as advertised inside the circle and many of the freshmen have already shown they are more than capable early on.
FSU will return to action early Sunday at 9 a.m. against UConn.
