Florida State softball had the disappointing result of yesterday's upset loss to Stetson in the regional. The Seminoles now take on the Jacksonville State Gamecocks at 2:30 PM EST inside JoAnne Graf Field in Tallahassee, Florida.
This is a Florida State softball team that is very talented, especially with having one of the best players in the country, Isa Torres. However, the distraction of having the chip on their shoulder after being awarded the No. 9 seed could have ruined their mojo.
Even though the Seminoles should feel disrespected that they didn't get the No. 8 seed over UCLA, Florida State still needs to go out there and execute. Head coach Lonni Alameda has experience in the postseason, so I am sure that she will have her squad ready to go.
It was unfortunate to see pitcher Jazzy Francik struggle and get the loss. Center fielder Kennedy Harp had herself a nice day with two hits, including a double.
Florida State knows that it has to win against Jacksonville State today
The Seminoles will be eliminated if they lose to the Gamecocks today, which would be a bummer for a squad that hopes to make a deep postseason run. Jacksonville State will be looking to rebound after its heartbreaking loss to UCF in extra innings. The Gamecocks led the game until the final out of the seventh inning against the Knights, so that could be a morale killer.
The job won't be finished for Florida State if they beat Jacksonville State on Saturday afternoon because the Seminoles will have to play the loser of Stetson and UCF. They could get their revenge on the Hatters, which would be good for Florida State's confidence.
Overall, this is where Florida State softball has to lock in because they dug themselves in a hole. If they survive Jacksonville State and the winner of Stetson/UCF on Saturday, they will have to play the winner of that Stetson/UCF matchup on Sunday.
